Spicy Thai Tuna Burgers

Garlic Chili Pepper Sauce gives these flavorful burgers just the right amount of spice. It’s a deliciously healthy change from red meat. Top Tuna Burgers with our Thai Cucumber Salad for a double treat!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup diced shallots
  • 1 tablespoon diced ginger
  • 1 1/2 lbs fresh tuna
  • 3 tablespoons Garlic Chili Pepper Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Fish Sauce
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs, divided
  • 3 tablespoons Thai or Italian basil, minced
  • Oil
  • Optional: Thai Cucumber Salad, 6 sliced hamburger buns, mayonnaise, lettuce and sliced tomatoes

Directions

  1. If using optional Thai Cucumber Salad, make first and set aside to marinate.
  2. Add shallots and ginger to food processor. Pulse until minced. Add tuna, Garlic Chili Pepper Sauce and Fish Sauce. Pulse until minced but not puréed.
  3. Add tuna mixture to a medium bowl. Add 1/3 cup of panko bread crumbs, and basil. Mix until incorporated and shape into 6-1/2 cup size balls. Form patties and coat outside with remaining panko crumbs. Place burgers on cookie sheet, cover and chill for 15 minutes (before grilling) or up to 6 hours ahead for ease of entertaining.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high temperature. When hot, oil grill grates. Grill tuna burgers for 4-5 minutes per side. They should be slightly pink in the center. Oil buns and lightly grill.
  5. Brush inside of grilled buns with mayonnaise, top with lettuce, tomatoes, burgers and for an extra special topping, top burgers with Thai Cucumber Salad. Serve and enjoy!
